I have some wonderful friends that are saints in the animal community. Their names are Laura and David Hirsch. David has a thriving medical practice and Laura is a very busy wife and mother. But neither of them is ever too busy when it comes to a creature that is lost or has been abandoned.

The Hirschs already have three cats, Peter, Idy Biddy and Misty and a beautiful dog with glistening hair named Ollie (all inside babies). As if that wasn't enough, Laura recently spotted a small dog (blue healer/sheppard mix) running loose in their neighborhood. The poor dog looked malnutritioned, was lost and was terrified of people. This was obviously a dog that was mistreated and probably dumped on a busy highway close to their neighborhood.

Lucky for that dog, Laura happened to be outside when she was running the neighborhood looking for water and food (it was in the heat of the summer 100 degrees or more). It was as if that dog knew exactly where to go because Laura took her right in and fed her and gave her water. The Hirschs posted notice that they had found this dog and tried to locate her rightful owners but to no avail. They could have called the pound or taken her to the Humane Society. Lucky for that dog they decided to keep her and give her a wonderful home. She was right at home with the rest of the clan and has made every piece of furniture in that house her own. Her name is Mattie.

Thank God for people like the Hirschs that care about what happenes to these helpless little animals that are left to fend for themselves.

If I were an abandoned pet I would love to have the address of Dr Hirsch and his wife……maybe dogs should write it down on the side of fire hydrants:)
